Do You Have Five Fingers?

Do you have Five Fingers?  Before you say, yeah, duh, take a look at the photo above.  These Five Fingers, despite the name, are a brand of shoe that mimics barefoot running.  The science behind this footwear that is fast becoming more commonplace is that it strengthens your feet, ankles, and legs by forcing you to run in a more natural way.  I just got mine in the mail on Wednesday and I've ran in them a couple times so far.  The recommendation is that you first cut your mileage in half and then gradually increase so that you don't strain those muscles in your legs that you didn't even know existed before.  I haven't ran more than I mile in them yet.  I'll keep you guys posted on the results.

Last Sunday evening, Jordan Burroughs won the gold medal at the World Championships, and Team USA placed third as a team in Men's Freestyle!  Burroughs, a two-time NCAA Champ from Nebraska, became the first person to win NCAA and World titles in the same year since Steve Neal (a former guard for 3 New England Patriots Super Bowl teams) did in 1999.  I watched Jordan's gold medal match online and he still looked as lightning quick as he did in college, even against some of the best wrestlers in the world.

Believe it or not, Burroughs will be putting on a technique clinic at Springfield Technical Community College, in Springfield, MA on Sunday, November 20th.  That school is only about an hour and a half from RPI, and my team has actually gone there for several matches.  But the big bummer is that we will be in New Hampshire for the Northeast Conference Duals that day.  For anyone else out there, if you happen to live within driving distance of Springfield, I'd highly recommend going there.  Why not learn from the best?

Run barefoot,
Jeff
