During the school year I will do my best to blog at least once per week, but today there is no school, so you guys get a bonus one this week. Back in June I wrote a blog about Georges St. Pierre. Well, he's back, and he's still the man. On Yahoo! Sports there is a new section titled "Elite Athlete Workouts," and this week's three video series featured GSP. You can watch all three of the videos, but if there's one thing you take away from it, have it be this quote from the second video: "Everything I do in my life, if it takes me a step away from my goal, I just don't do it."
A large part of GSP's training is gymnastics or other body weight exercises. Gymnastics can challenge your muscles in an endless variety of ways that can't be matched using any other method. Just try doing ring dips and you'll see what I mean. If you don't have easy access to gymnastics apparatus, you can still include some cartwheels, forward rolls, and other tumbling in your warm-up, and you can add exercises such as handstands or pull-ups into your conditioning. Part of GSP's reason for training in gymnastics is "it will make my career longer" by improving his flexibility and range of motion. Stretching before and after any workout is crucial, and a more flexible athlete is a less injury prone athlete.
In case you didn't read my blog from yesterday, the third video summed it up by saying he avoids "all the white stuff." That would be white bread, white rice, or any other unrefined grains. I'm already looking forward to the next time I learn more about the guy who has "the most famous six-pack in sports."
Lengthen you career,
Jeff
