Today was my last day training with and assistant coaching the Bison of Buffalo Grove High School. My short stint in town was great, but I have to go back to RPI tomorrow. Hopefully I can get involved in some coaching next season when I'm in Ohio.
Back when I was in high school, I always rushed down to the locker room after practice so that I could squeeze in a shower before I had to catch the bus home. The showers at school had no knob to adjust the temperature, and once they were turned on they took a couple minutes to warm up. But, being as I had no time to waste, I jumped right in as soon as they were on. Everyone else thought I was nuts for doing so, but the cold water really was a relief after a tough training session. By the time I finished showering the water was nice and warm, which was perfect for relaxing my muscles. Everyone who thought I was crazy was just getting in at that point, but I had just finished using a powerful recovery tool.
As insane as it sounds, I advise you to alternate the water between really cold and really hot when you shower after working out. I wasn't able to change the temperature of the showers at the high school, so the first half was cold and the second half was hot, but when you're at home I suggest switching between each extreme roughly every minute or so. If you can stand it, your muscles will thank you.
Be crazy,
Jeff
