Better Late than Never

I apologize for not posting this at the beginning of the season when you all had to do your weight certifications, as it could've been extremely useful.  The following link describes a method for losing 5-10 pounds while still staying hydrated for the test: http://www.ohiowrestlingsite.com/341/ohio-wrestling-site-reveals-a-system-for-beating-the-weight-certification-rules/.  I am in no way saying that you must cut weight, but as the article points out, a team may need to juggle their lineup around to fill all of the spots for a dual meet.  If that is the case, this will do the trick.

This is a process that allows you to beat the system in a relatively sound and healthy manner.  Notice how I didn't say that we're cheating the system.  This is a perfectly legal work-around.  Here are a few crucial take-aways from the link:
  • Little to no sodium and carbs the day before and the day of the test
  • Drink a lot of water the day before the test
  • Drinking about 20 oz. of water 30 minutes before your workout on the day of the test allows your urine to be clear even though you just sweat up a storm
Although you won't have to do weight certification again until November, you can use this same method to make weight for a match with the only modification being that you wouldn't work out right before your weigh in.  Keep in mind that the example in the article was for a 171 pounder (the article is a little outdated, as the weight class is now 170) - a 106 pounder (I still can't get used to the new weight classes) can not and should not lose as much as someone that size.  This system will work differently for everybody, so I suggest you do a dry run of it on a week that you don't have a match.

Beat, don't cheat, the system,
Jeff
